A Letter from the Coach

Hello Gator Golf Nation,

After having a couple weeks to reflect on the2023-24 Gator golf season, I could not be prouder of what our young men accomplished. A year ago, we graduated 3 perennial All Americans in Fred Biondi, Ricky Castillo and Yuxin Lin. Replacing their production was a monumental task. Watching the development and rise of the new generation of Gator golf, has been one of the greatest rewards of my coaching career.

This past season we tallied 6 team wins

  1. Georgetown Intercollegiate
  2. Pablo Creek Collegiate
  3. Sea best Invitational
  4. Gators Invitational
  5. Schenkel invitational
  6. Calusa cup

Individual success

  1. Matthew Kress – winner Georgetown Intercollegiate
  2. Ian Gilligan – winner Southern Highlands Collegiate
  3. Ian Gilligan received a sponsor exemption into the Shriner’s Las Vegas tour event scheduled for October 17-20, 2024 for his victory.
  4. Ian Gilligan – GCAA Honorable mention All American/SEC 2nd Team
  5. Jack Turner – GCAA Honorable mention all American/ Freshman Team all SEC
  6. Parker Bell qualified for the 124th US Open at Pinehurst

We also achieved a high level of post season success. We narrowly lost to Vanderbilt in the quarterfinals of the SEC championship 3-2. The final match was decided in a playoff on the 19th hole.

We successfully navigated NCAA Regionals at the Purdue Golf Course finishing 3rd and qualifying for the NCAA Championship, earning the opportunity to defend our 2023 National championship victory.

At NCAA finals hosted in San Diego by La Costa, we ultimately fell a couple shots short of qualifying for match play but turned in an extremely impressive 11th place finish.

Looking forward we return the core of our lineup and a ton of experience.

Ian Gilligan – Senior; Matthew Kress – Red shirt Junior; Parker Bell – Junior; Jack Turner – Sophomore and Luke Poulter – Sophomore not to mention all the other talented players vying for a spot in the lineup. We have also added one of the top recruiting classes in the country including Zack Swanwick – New Zealand and Parker Sands – Oklahoma. We may also have a special addition joining us in January.

Next year’s schedule will feature trips to Washington State (Sahalle), Chicago (Olympia Fields), Ohio (Muirfield Village), California (Sherwood CC), Las Vegas (Southern Highlands) and Naples (Calusa Pines). The SEC Conference championship at Sea Island will now include Texas and Oklahoma.

College golf is more competitive than ever before. We continue to need everyone’s support to keep the Gators at the top.

We appreciate you giving generously and look forward to seeing everyone this fall at Gators Golf Day scheduled for September 13, 2024.Entry forms will be emailed next week. Keep in mind, space is limited and will be filled as entries are received.
